Maintaining Module
MAINTAINING NARRATIVES
1. Sketch the layout of your classroom/laboratory/workshop
- learning resource area
- practical work area
- contextual learning laboratory
- service support area
- computer laboratory
- distance learning area
- trainers’ resource area
- quality control area
- institutional assessment area
Notes:
You have to make a layout of your classroom/laboratory/workshop. This has to be aligned with your qualification title. For an example, Events managements qualification, it should have an appropriate classroom/laboratory/workshop for your qualification. Your layout should be appropriate with your qualification, but regardless of qualification title, there are 9 learning stations.
Here are the following 9 learning stations and their descriptions:
- learning resource area
- practical work area
- contextual learning laboratory
- support service area
- computer laboratory
- distance learning area
- trainers’ resource area
- quality control area
- institutional assessment area
Learning Resource Area
In the learning resource area, the trainees would study the knowledge component and competency that needs to be achieved. CBLM can be read here, particularly the information sheet. The independent study, or modular learning and self-paced learning is also done here. All the learning materials can also be found here.
Practical Work Area
In the Practical Work Area, the skills components of the competencies that need to be learned are practiced here, along with the knowledge component that is based on TESDA standards.
Contextual Learning Laboratory
In the Contextual Learning Laboratory, the underpinning knowledge and basic competencies of the qualification are learned here. They might not be a part of the core competencies of your qualification, but it also helps in learning the core competencies.
Support Service Area
In the Support Service Area, the trainer could utilize this space to give the support that the trainees need. For an example, in giving feedback or remark.
Computer Laboratory
This learning area would be utilized for the computer units that the trainees would use for their ICT needs.
Distance Learning Area
The learning modules would be learned here, and online classes would take place here.
Trainers’ Resource Area
The materials used for the creation of training materials, learning materials, and training regulations are found here.
Quality Control Area
In this learning area, the finished output of the trainees would be evaluated here for quality.
Institutional Assessment Area
The Institutional Assessment Area can be found in the Practical Work Area. After the trainees finished their modules and competency units, the summative assessment would be done here. Also, the Recognition of Prior Learning would be conducted here.
2. Enumerate the training equipment, and machines that are in your classroom/laboratory/workshop. If there too many, write it as a set.
- computers
- printer
- LCD
- Aircon
- Scanner
Notes:
There are tools and equipment, and materials that are used in the qualification that you are going to teach as a trainer. List the items that are used in your qualification, don’t add the items from other qualification titles.
Enumerate the major maintenance and housekeeping activities performed by all personnel involved in the maintenance of your classroom. What improvement will you recommend? Why?
Housekeeping
- Arrange the working tables and chairs
- Clean the rest rooms
- Sweep the floor
- Dispose garbage
Maintenance
- Clean the aircon filter
- Clean the LCD lens
- Scan the PCs
Notes:
There are two activities that are done in the classrooms and workshops: maintenance and housekeeping. The maintenance is done to prolong the serviceable life of the tools and equipment. Housekeeping, on the other hand, is done to keep the cleanliness and orderliness of the classrooms and other workshops.
The following are some examples of the activities in the classroom and workshops:
A. Housekeeping
a.1 Arrange the working tables and chairs
a.2 Clean the rest rooms
a.3 Sweep the floor
a.4 Dispose garbage
B. Maintenance
b.1 Clean the aircon filter
b.2 Clean the LCD lens
b.3 Scan the PCs
3. What procedure do you follow to request for the purchase of additional tools, equipment and machines for your classroom? What improvement would you recommend for this procedure?
- The purchase is prepared by the requisitioner, and it will be approved by his manager.
Notes:
The purchase request is used if any section or department needs to request a particular item or replacement of a tool or equipment. In this document, the description, model, and quantity of the requested item is specified. The date of request and purchase is also indicated here, signed by the requisitioner, and approved by the training center manager.
4. What is the SOP of your institution when equipment is found to be out of order? Would you recommend an improvement to this procedure? Why or why not?
- Tag a label to the equipment that is not working and contact a repairman.
The following are tag-out labels:
– Yellow, if caution
– Red, if warning
Notes:
If the tool or equipment is rendered out of order or broken, it has to be marked with a tag-out label with color-coding. Yellow if caution and Red if warning. Make sure to put the tag-out label on the equipment itself and on a conspicuous place wherein it can be easily read and noticed. The tag-out label should also be appropriate for the condition of the equipment.
5. Describe your institution’s waste disposal system. If none, what can you recommend?
- Segregate the bio-gradable from the non-bio-degradable
Notes:
Our institution has no hazardous materials but there are waste materials. There are three ways to manage waste, these are called the ‘Three Rs’: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This is also called ‘Recycle, Compose, Dispose. Before this, waste segregation should be done: biodegradable wastes are segregated from the non-biodegradable.
6. Describe your institution’s recording and documentation of equipment/machine maintenance repair. If none, what can you recommend?
Write a Breakdown/Repair Report. The report shall show the following:
- Findings
- Recommendations
- Action taken
- If the repair does not work, recommend what to do
- Record the equipment history
Notes:
Should any equipment fail or experience malfunction, a breakdown/repair report has to be created. In this report, the name of the equipment and condition and the recommendation will be written. This will serve as the record history of the equipment.
