LEARNING OUTCOME NO. 2 – PREPARE SESSION PLAN

For each unit of competency a session plan is prepared.

On the topmost part of the Session Plan are the following headings: Sector; Qualification Title; Unit of Competency; and Module Title.

Sector

The term sector refers to the industry sector to which a qualification title belongs. This is found in the Training Regulations of a qualification title, cover page.

Qualification Title

Qualification Title is a title of a cluster of units of competencies of a specific job. This is also found on the cover page of the Training Regulations of that job.

Unit of Competency

Unit of Competency is a cluster of learning outcomes for which a session plan is prepared.

Module Title

The Module Title is the same as Unit of Competency. The difference is that the first word of Module Title ends with –ing, or a gerund.

 Learning Outcomes

Down below the Module Title is an enumeration of learning outcomes of the unit of competency for which a session plan is prepared.

Introduction

The Introduction is next. This is found in the Training Regulations of the Qualification Title. It is called by a different name. It is called Descriptor of the unit of competency for which you are preparing a session plan. All you have to do is copy-paste the entire texts.

Learning Activities

The Learning Activities comprise the entire elements of the session plan.

                Learning Content

You can derive the learning content from your TR. Take a look at the Performance Criteria of each learning outcome from the TR. Learning outcome is not learning outcome in the TR. It is called as ‘element’ there. Reading the Performance Criteria will easily give you an idea about what learning content you will write. It should be a noun and not a verb. Don’t include the qualifier phrase at the end of the sentence in the Performance Criteria. That is appropriate only in Performance Criteria but not in learning content.

                  Methods

That column is a listing of methods to deliver the contents. The common methods are: independent study or self-check, lecture/discussion, and demonstration.

Independent Study or modular self-paced learning

In independent study or modular self-paced learning, the trainee is provided with learning materials. He will read and understand it. After the reading, he will answer questions to check his comprehension. Then, he will compare his answers to the answer key.

Lecture/Discussion

The trainer conducts lecture on the learning content and leads the trainees into a discussion.

Demonstration

In this method, the trainer performs demonstration to explain the learning contents.

                Presentation

The method of the presentation varies as follows:

 modular, self-paced learning

presented by Information Sheet or learnin modules

lecture

the trainer conducts lecture and facilitates discussion with trainees

demonstration

the trainer performs demonstration to provide learnings to trainees

                Practice

The manner of practice depends on the used method.

  • For independent study, modular self-paced learning

Self-check. Questions are asked about the learning materials that the trainee has just read.

This is to determine the comprehension of the trainee on the learning materials. Make at least three question types: True or False; Gap Fill; Identification; Enumeration

  • Lecture

The trainer will determine the comprehension of the trainees by engaging them in questions and answers and discussions

  • Demonstration

As a form of practice, the trainee accomplishes task sheets or job sheets, accompanied by performance criteria checklist

Feedback

The giving of feedback depends upon what method used to practice. These are the following:

  • Modular, Self-Paced

The feedback in this method is the Self-Check that followed after reading the learning module. It consists of questions from a variety of question types, and the Answer Key.

  • Lectures

In lectures, feedback is done through the questions-answers engagement between the trainer and the trainees.

  • Demonstration

Feedback in demonstration is done by comparing the task sheet/job sheet with the performance criteria checklist.

Resources

Resources is the list of tools, equipment, and materials used in the delivery of the learning content using the method.

                Time

Time is the training duration allocated for training delivery using the method.

Assessment Plan

After the last learning outcome has been written, down below is the Assessment Plan. It’s here where the assessment instruments to use in each learning outcomes are enumerated. Usually, these are: Writing Test, Performance Test, and Oral Questioning.

Teacher’s Reflection

This is the last part of the Session Plan. Anything that comes into mind while doing the session plan or while conducting the training is the teacher’s reflection. It’s written here.
